University of Mataram (UNRAM) is the only one public university in the province of West Nusa Tenggara, established in 1962. Faculty of Food Science and Agro-industrial Technology is part of UNRAM, historically originated from Agriculture Technology Studies Program (PS TP) UNRAM which was established in 1984 (Director General of Higher Education, “Dikti”, Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia Decree Number 49 / Dikti / Kep / 1984), then became Agricultural Product Technology Studies Program (PS THP) in 1996 based on the decision of the Director General of Higher Education Ministry of  Education and Culture Republic of Indonesia Number: 232 / Dikti / Kep / 1996.

Before the formation of PS TP, administratively PS THP were placed under the management of the Department of Agriculture at Faculty of Agriculture University of Mataram until 2005. in 2000 until 2004 PS THP receive Due Like-grants from Dikti that was used for the improvement of laboratory facilities and equipment, literature, improving the quality of faculty, curriculum development and planning new formation of Agricultural Engineering Studies Program (PS TEP). New curriculum had been implemented started from academic year of 2001/2002, therefore the graduates received degree as Bachelor of Agricultural Technology (STP) which determined by Rector Decree No. 9055 / J.18.H. / H.K.01.11 / 2002.

In 2005, Department of Agricultural Technology (JTP) was established with two courses, namely Agricultural Technology Studies Program (PS THP) and Agricultural Engineering Studies Program (PS TEP) by SK Director General of Higher Education No. 27 / Dikti / Kep / 2005. Furthermore, the Director General of Higher Education responded to Letter No. 163 / DIKTI / Kep / 2007 on codification name of the course, then in April 2010, University of Mataram, the name of Agricultural Product Technology Studies Program turned into Department of Food Science and Technology Studies Program (PS ITP).

In 2010 both of two studies program receive accredited from BAN PT, PS ITP accredited “B” which is valid until 2015 (Certificate of Accreditation of BAN PT No.025 / BAN-PT / Ak-XIII / S1 / XI / 2010 dated 12 November 2010). Meanwhile PS TEP in 2011 accredited “B” which is valid until 2016 (Certificate of Accreditation of BAN PT No. 023 / BAN-PT / Ak-XIV / S1 / IX / 2011).

At February 4th 2012, the Faculty was established using the name of  Faculty of Food and Agroindustrial Technology (abbreviated as “Fatepa”) based on Rector Decree Number 1569 / UN18 / HK.00.01 / 2012 At and inaugurated by Ministry of Education and Culture Republic of Indonesia Prof.Dr.Ir. Muhammad Nuh, DEA  on July 2nd, 2012. Starting the academic year 2012/2013 Faculty of Food Technology and Agro-Industry finally has an independent institution from Faculty of Agriculture, with two main studies programs, namely Food Science and Technology (levels of S-1) and Agricultural Engineering (levels of S-1).

Curriculum at PS ITP has been prepared by considering the development of Science and Food Technology referring to the curriculum recommended by Association of Indonesian Food Technologists (PATPI) and the International Food Technology (IFT) to produce graduates mastering the field of food (Food Technologist), capable and professional in applying Science and Food Technology covering chemistry, biochemistry, food analysis, microbiology, food safety, food design, food applied science, management on selection system, preservation, processing, packaging, distribution and food utilization. In 2015, PS ITP receive accredited from BAN PT, PS ITP accredited “B” which is valid until October 31th 2020 (Certificate of Accreditation of BAN PT No. 1122/SK/BAN-PT/Akred-S/X/2015), meanwhile PS TEP also receive accredited from BAN PT.

Curriculum at PS TEP has been prepared refers to Association of Indonesian Agricultural Engineering (ISAE or PERTETA) and   American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineering (ASABE) to produce graduates who are able to master, apply and develop the Fundamental Engineering in Agriculture, Agro-Industry and Bio-System. PS TEP accredited “B” which is valid until July 21th 2021 (Certificate of Accreditation of BAN PT no. 1201/SK/BAN-PT/Akred-S/VII/2016).

Become a Faculty that develop science, technology and qualified human resources, dynamic and innovative based on research in the field of food, agro-industry and biosystem that environmental friendly and internationally competitive to encounter 2025.

Mission

  3. To be proactive in implement food technology, agro-industry and biosystem in order to develop agricultural industry

Objective

Faculty of Food Technology and Agro-industry aimed to produce experts in the field of agricultural technology that:

  1. Produce experts in the field of agricultural technology that fluent, skilled, independent and responsive to the development of science and technology in order to fullfill the needs of society.
  2. have spirit of Pancasila and high personal integrity as a bachelor of agricultural technology.
  3. Able to master knowledge and skills to apply technology and art in accordance with specific expertise in the field of food, agro-industry and biosystem.
  4. Mastering the scientific basis to be able to think and act as scientists.
  5. Mastering the basics of science and technology in agriculture to be able to discover, understand, explain and formulate problem solving in the field of expertise.
  6. Develop and discover science, technology and art in the disciplines of agricultural technology.
  7. Provide services to the community in the form of dissemination and application of science, technology and art in supporting the development of food, agro-industry and biosystem.

Currently the Faculty of Food and Agroindustrial Technology (Fatepa) University of Mataram has two (2) courses, i.e :

  1. Studies Program of Food Science and Technology
  2. Studies Program of Agricultural Engineering.

There are 31 lecturers at Fatepa, 7 of them have Doctoral degree (S3) including 2 of them are Professors. Those lecturers currently have the expertise and skills that rely upon various fields of science such as: Food Chemistry, Food Microbiology, Food Processing, Food Nutrition, Physiology and Post-harvest Technology, Power and Agricultural Machinery, Design on Bioprocess, System and Management of Agricultural Engineering, Environmental Conservation of Agricultural Engineering. One of Fatepa’s highest achievement was one of its lecturer included as Top 100 of Indonesian Innovators in 2008.

To conduct three duties of college (tri dharma), the lecturers at Fatepa has been doing various researches in different disciplines, both funded by the National Budgetary (APBN) through the Directorate General of Higher Education (DIKTI) and Ministry of Research and technology (Kemenristek), also from non-tax revenues (PNBP) such as international donor agencies (ACIAR, IFC, SADI, BAT UK etc.) and result from cooperation with various parties, including the central government, local governments, non-government organizations, state and private–enterprises, Research and Community Institute and Study Centre.

In supporting the research activities, Fatepa has been organized several research and study centre as follows; Study Centre of Traditional Food Development (PKPMT) and research centre of tropical development (Recentrop). Every year, the lecturers has been successfully applied the results of the research, construction design, and consultation in the form of software and hardware provided for society and industrialists especially in West Nusa Tenggara. To publish the results of research, study program Food Science and Technology has Profood journals and Agricultural Engineering has a Scientific Journal of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (JRPB) which can be accessed both online and in print.

In the field of Community Services, the teachers and students every year has activities in community service, such as the holding of extension of sanitation and the dangers of food additives to traders around universities, how to process food in a good way for the community, basic design and construction workshops of agricultural machinery, care services and maintenance of machinery and equipment. Currently Fatepa has some village built like in Mataram (Gerisak), Lombok Barat (Sesaot), North Lombok (Tanjung, Montong Bae, Pemenang Barat and Santong), and East Lombok (Montong Ba’an). In addition, community service activities also collaborated with PNPM SADI, ACIAR, IFC, BAT UK, etc, as well as a leader for the activity: Conversion Fuel oven virginia tobacco in West Nusa Tenggara, of alternatives through the use of photopoltech hybrid oven Virginia tobacco, energy resources development and food through forest management techniques in West Nusa Tenggara, Post Harvest of wheat and rice (GP4GB), supervisor Silo Corn, use of carrageenan, technology liquid smoke, the acceleration program diversity of food consumption (P2KP) on the use of local materials in the manufacture of various flour, design and construction of agricultural equipment and food processing machinery

Food Science and Technology Studies Program (PS ITP) is one of courses at the Faculty of Food Technology and Agro-Industry. These courses are former studies program under the management of Agricultural Technology under Faculty of Agriculture, University of Mataram defined by Director General of Higher Education, Department of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia Decree Number: 49 / DIKTI / KEP / 1984. Then transformed again into studies program named Agricultural Product Technology by Directorate General of Higher Education Decree numbers 232 / DIKTI / KEP / 96 dated 11 July 1996. This studies program is accredited B by National Accreditation agency (BAN PT) Number: 025 / BAN-PT / Ak-XIII / S1 / 2010, valid until 12 November 2015. In 2015, PS ITP receive accredited from BAN PT, PS ITP accredited “B” which is valid until October 31th 2020 (Certificate of Accreditation of BAN PT No. 1122/SK/BAN-PT/Akred-S/X/2015)

PS ITP’s vision is to develop science, technology and qualified human resources, dinamic and innovative research-based in the field of food, environmental friendly agro-industry that internationally competitive to encounter 2025.

PS ITP mission are:

  1. Implement education that oriented on science, professionalism and entrepreneurship
  2. Conduct research to develop Food Science Technology and Agro-industry
  3. Actively have a role in the implementation of Food Technology and Agro-industry in order to promote agricultural industry

PS ITP curriculum prepared in accordance with the recommendation of professional competency standards (Association of Indonesian Food Technology Expert) and by the IFT (International Food Technology) with a bachelor’s degree graduates of Agricultural Technology.

Based on PS ITP’s educational competences, students are educated to knowing, understanding and mastering science and technology in the field of: chemistry and food analysis; microbiology and food safety; engineering in food processing; designing added-value products; production and production control; food, nutrition and health. Moreover, students can serve as food technologists in the community; food industry knowledge and life skills.

Studies Program of Agricultural Engineering (PS TEP), Faculty of Food and Agro-Industrial Technology, University of Mataram is established based on Director General of Higher Education Ministry of Education and Culture Decree No. 27 / Dikti / Kep / 2005. The department has been certified “B” based on  BAN-PT Decree No. 023 / BAN-PT / Ak-XIV / S1 / 2011, which valid until 9 September 2016.

PS TEP receive accredited from BAN PT, PS TEP accredited “B” which is valid until July 21th 2021 (Certificate of Accreditation of BAN PT no. 1201/SK/BAN-PT/Akred-S/VII/2016)

The curriculum is implemented based on recommended curriculum from Indonesia Society of Agricultural Engineering  (Perteta) and International Curriculum from ASABE (American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineering). Obtained degree after graduating this course is Bachelor of Agricultural Technology.

The Program aimed to produce a Bachelor of Agricultural Technology that qualified and independently capable in master, implement and develop the fundamentals of engineering in agriculture, agro-industry, biosystem and environmental technology. Graduates are required to master the basic agricultural science, fundamentals engineering, agricultural device and mechanization, science and management systems, energy and electrification, control and instrumentation systems, natural resources and the environment, agriculture and food processing, information and communication technologies, as well as professional ethics in engineering.
