Mataram, University of Mataram – The Rector of University of Mataram (Unram), Prof. Ir. Bambang Hari Kusumo, M.Agr.St., Ph.D., inaugurated the Sport Center on Friday, 7 February 2025 as part of the commitment in supporting the development of sports facilities within Unram. The inauguration which took place in the Unram Sport Centre area was attended by the Rector, university leaders, lecturers, academic community, and invited guests from various related institutions.

The inauguration went smoothly and was filled with a series of activities, such as gymnastics together, remarks from the Rector of Unram, symbolic signing of the inscription stone, eating together, and door prize distribution. The construction of the Unram Sport Centre is a new achievement for Unram in improving public facilities for the academic community and the general public. The Rector of Unram said that the Unram Sport Centre is a project that has been awaited for decades.

“This place has been long coveted from year to year, dozens of years, even decades and can be realised today. We used to have a football field, but it still needs adequate facilities like we still need tribunes which hopefully can be realised,” he said.

Apart from the academic community, the Unram Sport Centre can also be accessed by the general public by fulfilling certain requirements. The facilities available in it include male and female swimming pools, basketball courts, futsal courts, badminton courts, volleyball courts, and various other sports facilities. These facilities can be accessed free of charge for the Unram academic community starting today after the inauguration.

The Rector of Unram also added that commercialisation of existing facilities is necessary to support the sustainability of maintenance and development of facilities at Unram. However, the benefits of the Unram Sport Centre take priority over the commercialisation, it is hoped that the benefits can be enjoyed by the academic community and the wider community.

“In addition, I will explain the management system of the Unram Sport Centre which will certainly have a special manager, but until Eid we will be free, but there are still rules that apply later. One thing that I will emphasise again is that the commercialisation of the Unram Sport Center is not the main thing expected but its usefulness,” he added.

The inauguration was welcomed enthusiastically by students and the academic community who now have wider access to good quality sports facilities. With the presence of the Unram Sport Centre, Unram affirms its role as a campus that cares about health, the environment, and sustainable development. The spirit of sustainable development promoted in this project is also clear evidence that Unram continues to move forward to create a better environment and build healthy lifestyles among students and the community.
