usindoUSINDO awards grants of up to $2,000 to fund travel to Indonesia or to the United States.
These grants are awarded to promote academic and other exchanges between the two countries. USINDO Travel Grants are open to U.S. and Indonesian citizens seeking to travel to Indonesia or the United States to conduct field research or other professional projects, including conferences.
Application Procedures USINDO Travel grant applications are reviewed four times per year. Deadline for applications to be considered are March 1, June 1, September 1, and December 1. Please apply before the deadline nearest to your anticipated travel dates; but please also take note that grants are generally awarded six to eight weeks after the application deadline. To apply, please send a complete application package to travel@usindo.org. The subject line should read “Last Name, First Name”.Travel Grant Application Materials

• Travel Grant Application
• Personal statement in a cover letter outlining your proposed travel to Indonesia or the
United States, how this program will contribute to your academic study or professional endeavors, an detailed explanation of the proposed deliverable, and how much money you are requesting for your proposed grant (please note that the maximum grant allowance is $2000);
• A simple budget outlining how you will spend your proposed grant;
• A brief resume or curriculum vitae also highlighting your language proficiency. If you
are still in school, please include an unofficial transcript;
• Applicants should include one (1) letter of nomination from a faculty member or
supervisor. Nomination letters can be emailed to travel@usindo.org. The subject line
should read “Recommendation: Last Name, First Name”. It is the responsibility of the
applicant to ensure nomination letters are sent on time.

Please note that only electronic applications are accepted. Incomplete and late applications
will automatically not be considered. Send any inquires to travel@usindo.org. No phone
calls please.

Eligibility
All U.S. and Indonesian citizens are welcome to apply. Student applicants must be enrolled in a degree program.

The Society particularly welcomes applications from graduate and undergraduate students
who are interested in the social sciences – economics, history, political economy, government, international relations and religious studies. However, USINDO will seriously
consider applications in any field of study.

The criteria for awarding travel grants include, but are not limited to: availability of funds,
qualifications of the applicant, importance of the proposed project, and the potential of the
applicant to contribute to long-term understanding between Indonesia and the United States.

Requirements
The awardee is required to write the Society a brief report detailing his/her activities within 30 days after return to the United States. Please indicate the expected deliverables with regards to this report in your application.The awardee also agrees to pass on any academic papers, books and other materials that are produced as a result of the project funded by the Travel Grant to USINDO.

Restrictions
Institutions receiving grants on behalf of a student are ineligible to receive another Travel
Grant for one calendar year or until a final report has been received by the Society from the previous grantee, or whichever comes later.
Applicants who have received funding for travel or research on the proposed topic must
declare so in the application. Receipt of a scholarship/fellowship does not disqualify the
applicant from also receiving a USINDO travel grant.
