Celebrating Kartini Day, DWP Unram Hosts Seminar and Creative Competitions

Mataram, University of Mataram — To commemorate Kartini Day, the Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP) of the University of Mataram (Unram) organized a series of activities consisting of competitions and a seminar, held at the Dome Hall of Unram on Saturday, April 25, 2026. Carrying the theme “Emancipation in the Digital Era: Empowering Women to be Independent, Financially Literate, and Culturally Rooted,” the event aimed to honor the legacy of R. A. Kartini while inspiring contemporary women to continue advancing and thriving amidst modern challenges.

The event commenced with various competitions participated in by members of DWP Unram. These included a letter‑writing contest dedicated to Kartini, a traditional spice‑arranging competition, and a Kartini‑themed fashion show. Through these activities, DWP Unram provided a platform for women to express themselves, showcase creativity, and reinforce their role in preserving cultural heritage.

In addition to the competitions, the program also featured a seminar that brought together distinguished speakers. The first session was delivered by Prof. Darmiany, S.Pd., with a presentation entitled “Happy Mothers, Prosperous Families: Safeguarding Mental Health Amidst Dual Roles.” The second seminar, focusing on “Financial Literacy,” was presented by Achmad Surpriandi from Pegadaian Ampenan Area and Yan Adiyas Pratama from the Financial Services Authority (OJK) of West Nusa Tenggara Province.

In her opening remarks, Chair of the organizing committee, Suhartiningsih Rahadi Wirawan, emphasized that this event was not only a tribute to Kartini’s struggle but also an effort to instill the spirit of perseverance in younger generations.

“In commemoration of Kartini Day, DWP Unram has organized a series of activities aimed at honoring Kartini’s legacy and spirit of struggle, while inspiring younger generations to continue striving for the nation’s noble ideals,” stated one of the speakers.

Meanwhile, Chair of DWP Unram, Ny. Baiq Erna Sofyanti Ningsih Sukardi, in her remarks and official opening of the event, underscored the importance of women’s roles in the digital era. She conveyed that today’s women are not only expected to be educated, but also to adapt to change without losing their identity.

“Empowered women are those who can generate positive impact, not only for their families but also for the institutions in which we serve,” she affirmed.

Rector of Unram, Prof. Dr. Sukardi, M.Pd., also expressed his appreciation to DWP Unram for its active role in supporting both campus life and family well‑being. He emphasized the importance of maintaining communication, strengthening synergy, and continuing to contribute to social, educational, and community empowerment programs.

“I sincerely hope that in the future, the Dharma Wanita can each create their own role models to inspire those around them,” he conveyed.

During the event, members of Dharma Wanita appeared graceful in traditional kebaya attire, reflecting the spirit of Kartini and adding a strong cultural nuance to the commemoration. The entire series of activities unfolded in a festive, warm, and familial atmosphere. Through this celebration, the spirit of Kartini is expected to continue to live on, serving as motivation for women to keep learning, innovating, and contributing to nation‑building.
