Mataram, University of Mataram – Three decades ago, when agarwood was widely recognized simply as one of the world’s most valuable fragrant woods, a small group of researchers began asking far more fundamental questions. Why do only certain trees produce the highly prized resin? Could the process be understood through scientific research? And more importantly, could this extraordinary natural resource be utilized in ways that support both forest conservation and community livelihoods?
