Faculty of Animal Science Celebrates 58th Dies Natalis with the Spirit of “Back In Farming”

Mataram, University of Mataram – Faculty of Animal Science, University of Mataram (Unram) celebrated its 58th Dies Natalis with the theme “Back In Farming” on Wednesday, February 26, 2025. The celebration took place in the Faculty of Animal Science and was attended by the Rector, Vice Rector, Deans, alumni, academic community, teaching staff, and students of the Faculty.

The event began with a healthy walk that involved all participants, creating an atmosphere full of enthusiasm and togetherness. There were also bazaars, Faterna Awards and doorprize coupon draws that added to the excitement of the top event. Previously, various competitions were held to enliven the celebration, including farm-themed cosplay, ping pong ball relay, duck chase, and ranking one competition.

The Head of the Organizing Committee reported that this year’s Dies Natalis was also filled with social service activities and international student service in Seribu Sapi Village Sukadana, Central Lombok. As the highlight of the celebration, on Friday, February 28, 2025, there will be a guest lecture from Australia and academic cooperation with the Faculty of Medicine, Mandalika University of Education (Undikma).

Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Muhamad Ali, S.Pt., M.Si., Ph.D., in his speech expressed his gratitude for the Faculty’s long journey that has made great contributions, both at the local, national and international levels.

“Despite being 58 years old, the Faculty continues to play an active role in the academic world and the livestock industry. Big ideas such as Bumi Sejuta Sapi and various other innovative programs have made the faculty’s name widely known. This Dies Natalis is a moment of reflection to further enhance the faculty’s role in guarding national food security,” he said.

In line with this, Vice Rector I for Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Siti Hilyana, highlighted the work of the Faculty’s professors in producing strategic programs on a national and international scale.

“ There are many innovations born from Faterna Unram, such as the food estate concept which still has room to be developed. In addition, the sulfur pasture program in forest areas and poultry development in coastal areas can be a solution in reducing poverty and increasing community food security,” she explained.

The Rector of Unram, Prof. Ir. Bambang Hari Kusumo, M.Agr.St., Ph.D., also expressed his appreciation for Unram’s achievements, including the role of the Faculty of Animal Science in the university’s progress.

“In recent years, we have made many significant changes together, both in physical and non-physical aspects. Constructive criticism is always our motivation to move forward and bring Unram towards excellence,” he said.

As a symbol of the Faculty’s age, a tumpeng cutting ceremony was held, followed by the presentation of souvenirs to retired lecturers as a token of appreciation for their dedication. The event was made more festive by shared meals that strengthened the sense of solidarity, dance performances from the Farm Community, and poetry readings by lecturers of the Faculty.

The peak of the celebration was closed with the announcement of the door prize winners that had been awaited by all participants, ending the series of events with great joy and togetherness. With the spirit of togetherness and innovation, the 58th dies natalis of the Faculty is expected to be a momentum to continue contributing to the development of animal science and national food security. With dedication and commitment, the Faculty is expected to continue to be an important pillar in building a better and sustainable future for animal science.
