Synergy Between Unram and Gridwiz Continues to Foster Innovations in Sustainable Transportation

Mataram, University of Mataram – The Rector of the University of Mataram (Unram), Prof. Ir. Bambang Hari Kusumo, M.Agr.St., Ph.D., received a visit from the CEO of Gridwiz, Mr. Ryu June Woo on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at the Rector’s Guest Room, Unram Rectorate. This meeting is an important part of strengthening cooperation in developing an environmentally friendly transportation ecosystem on campus and its surroundings.

In the meeting that took place full of intimacy, the Rector of Unram expressed his high appreciation for the cooperation with Gridwiz, and emphasized Unram’s commitment to continue to encourage sustainable transportation innovation.

“I want this project to be successful. We are also coordinating with campus security so that the Unram campus gate can always be open on weekends so there will be more bicycle users,” said Prof. Bambang.

Gridwiz CEO, Mr. Ryu June Woo, revealed plans to expand e-bike services to areas around the Unram campus including Udayana and the Islamic Center (IC) in July. Welcoming this, the Rector of Unram emphasized the importance of the safety aspects of electric bicycle users as well as the arrangement of strategic parking locations and not exposed to sunlight to ensure battery life.

On that occasion, Mr. Ryu also expressed his gratitude for Unram’s full support for this project. He revealed that, until now, there have been more than 7,500 bicycle rentals by users in the Unram campus environment. “This is our first cooperation in Indonesia, and Unram is the first institution to implement it,” explained Mr. Ryu.

As a form of full support, Prof. Bambang has also proven Unram’s commitment to supporting sustainable transportation innovations and supporting environmental conservation efforts through the application of environmentally friendly technology, reducing carbon emissions, and integrating renewable energy research in the campus transportation sector by expanding pedestrian roads in the Unram environment and providing lanes for bicycle users. Considering the future expansion of this project, the Rector of Unram also suggested that Gridwiz should communicate about the bicycle lane to the Mataram City Government.

Gridwiz CEO further expressed his great appreciation for Unram for facilitating Gridwiz both in terms of facilities and human resources. “We appreciate Unram for providing numerous facilities as well as its best students who also help us in developing our applications and systems,” he concluded.

Regarding operational conditions, Mr. Ryu explained that although there had been problems with the battery, the battery was designed with special durability so that it remained safe despite exposure to hot weather. “Regarding safety and technicalities, we make sure it can remain safe. We will also increase the number of bicycles by 400 units which will be sent directly from Korea, this is proof of our commitment in developing this service,” said the Gridwiz CEO.

The Rector of Unram also encouraged periodic reports to be submitted, to strengthen the database of Unram students’ research in the field of transportation technology. In addition, Gridwiz has coordinated with the City of Mataram Government to support the expansion of the service area.

For fee rate information, Gridwiz sets a tariff policy of Rp 300 per minute and Rp 6,000 per 30 minutes if you purchase a special package for Unram students, as proven by a Student Identity Card (KTM) that is regularly updated every six months.

The meeting was closed with high enthusiasm from both parties to continue expanding collaboration in the future, in order to realize greener and more innovative transportation, support environmental preservation through the application of environmentally friendly technology and reduce carbon emissions for a better earth.
