Mataram, University of Mataram – The Rector of University of Mataram (Unram), Prof. Ir. Bambang Hari Kusumo, M.Agr.St., Ph.D., received a visit from the Regent of Sumbawa, Ir. H. Syarafuddin Jarot, M.P., on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 in the Rector’s Conference Room, Unram Rectorate. This visit also marked the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Unram and the Government of Sumbawa Regency.

The cooperation concerns regional development and improving human resource competencies through education, research, and community service.

One concrete form of cooperation that will be executed soon is the provision of educational scholarships for students from Sumbawa Regency, especially in study programs at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FKIK) Unram.

For 2025, the Sumbawa Regency Government allocates 10 scholarship quotas for the Medical Education Study Program and 5 quotas for the Pharmacy Study Program through partnership pathways.

“We are pleased to welcome this scholarship initiative from the Sumbawa Government. It is a concrete step toward expanding access to quality higher education for the region’s brightest students, especially those from remote areas,” said Prof. Bambang.

In line with this statement, the Regent of Sumbawa, Syarafuddin Jarot said that the provision of this scholarship is part of the regional strategy to build superior and equitable human resources.

“We will award this scholarship to outstanding students from remote areas in Sumbawa Regency. This is our long-term investment in cultivating professional health workers from within our own region,” he explained.

He also stated that the Sumbawa Regency Government plans to increase the number of quotas for this scholarship in the following year.

This collaboration is expected not only to strengthen the relationship between the local government and the university, but also to encourage innovation in healthcare services, education, and research-based development in Sumbawa Regency.
