Mataram Naval Base, Unram, and PB NW Sign MoU to Strengthen Coastal Resource Conservation and Sustainable Development in West Nusa Tenggara

Mataram, University of Mataram – The Mataram Naval Base (Lanal Mataram), the University of Mataram (Unram), and the Central Board of Nahdlatul Wathan (PB NW) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Saturday, August 23, 2025. The agreement focuses on the conservation and sustainable development of natural resources, human resources, and economic potential in coastal communities across West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).
This collaboration represents a strategic step in strengthening synergy between academia, the military, and civil society organizations in building coastal resilience.
Prof. Dr. Sukardi, M.Pd., Vice Rector for Finance and General Affairs of Unram who attended on behalf of the Rector, explained that the scope of the MoU encompasses cooperation in education, research, community service, and environmental conservation, covering social, economic, cultural, and sustainable natural resource management aspects. He further noted that the agreement also provides opportunities for additional collaborations as needed in the future.
Commander of Lanal Mataram, Marine Colonel A. Hadi Alhasny, in his remarks stated that the event was part of the series of activities commemorating the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) Anniversary, which included initiatives on the preservation and development of mangrove resources for coastal communities.
“For the TNI, mangroves serve as a green belt protecting Indonesia’s coastlines, particularly in the outermost regions, while also forming an integral part of maritime defense strategy,” he emphasized.
Meanwhile, the General Chairperson of PB NW, Maulana Syaikh Dr. TGKH. Lalu Gede Muhammad Zainuddin Atsani, emphasized that mangrove conservation is a concrete step with significant benefits, not only for coastal communities but also for environmental sustainability.
“The NW community strongly supports this initiative and is ready to take part in building a sustainable economy,” he affirmed.
Through this collaboration, Lanal Mataram, Unram, and PB NW hope to establish a synergy that will safeguard coastal ecosystems while simultaneously enhancing the welfare of the people of West Nusa Tenggara.
