Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Encourages Unram to Accelerate Research–Industry Collaboration to Drive National Progress

Mataram, University of Mataram – The University of Mataram (Unram) welcomed the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia (Mendiktisaintek RI), Prof. Brian Yuliarto, Ph.D., during a public lecture held at the Senate Conference Room of the Unram Rectorate Building on Saturday (November 8).
The event was attended by the Chair and members of the Unram Senate, Vice Rectors, Deans and Vice Deans, the Director of the Graduate Program, the Director of the Teaching Hospital, heads of institutional units, and dozens of students representing various faculties.
During the public lecture, Prof. Brian was accompanied by the Deputy Chair of Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), H. Lalu Hadrian Irfani, and the session was moderated by the Rector of Unram, Prof. Ir. Bambang Hari Kusumo, M.Agr.St., Ph.D.
The Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology emphasized the importance of synergy between universities and industry in building a science- and technology-based national economy. He noted that research conducted on campus should not remain solely in publications but must also generate innovations that can be applied within the industrial sector.
“Universities must act as drivers of the nation’s economy. Innovation must continue, and research should not remain confined to the laboratory. Collaboration with industry is essential to ensure that research outcomes truly benefit society,” said Prof. Brian.
He also cited examples from advanced countries such as Japan, Germany, and South Korea, which have achieved significant growth through close collaboration between universities and the industrial sector. According to him, Indonesia holds great potential to achieve similar progress if human resources within universities are optimally empowered.
“We strive to foster an economy driven by scientific and technological innovation. This is where universities play a crucial role, as the high-quality human resources nurtured on campus are the spearhead of the nation’s innovation and progress,” he added.
In addition to discussing research and innovation, Prof. Brian also delivered an inspiring message to students, encouraging them to stay motivated and resilient in their academic journey, embracing challenges with determination and cultivating an unstoppable drive to achieve their dreams.
This public lecture marked an important moment for Unram, reinforcing its commitment to producing research that is impactful, collaborative, and serves both industry and society.
