Unram Commemorates National Heroes Day on November 10: Igniting the Spirit of Struggle, Driving Meaningful Contributions, and Creating Impact for the Nation

Mataram, University of Mataram — With a spirit of patriotism and as a tribute to the nation’s heroes, the University of Mataram (Unram) held a ceremony to commemorate National Heroes Day on November 10 at the Unram Rectorate Field (10/11). The ceremony was conducted solemnly and was led directly by the Rector of Unram, Prof. Ir. Bambang Hari Kusumo, M.Agr.St., Ph.D., and attended by the Unram academic community.

In his address, the Rector emphasized that National Heroes Day serves as a moment to honor the courage and sacrifices of the heroes who fought to defend Indonesia’s independence during the Battle of Surabaya on November 10, 1945. momentum that marked an important milestone in the nation’s history.

“They fought not with superior arms, but with courage, faith, and an unyielding determination to defend independence,” stated Prof. Bambang.

Prof. Bambang emphasized that the spirit of struggle must continue to live on.
“The heroes have sacrificed their lives to fight for independence, now it is our responsibility to honor that legacy through meaningful work and contributions,” he stated. He encouraged the entire academic community to uphold and embody this spirit in everyday life, particularly through education, research, and impactful contributions to society.

The ceremony also underscored the importance of unity and nationalism, echoing the principle of one nation, one language, and one homeland: Indonesia. Prof. Bambang reminded everyone that unity remains the nation’s greatest strength.
“This nation will continue to stand strong as long as we remain united,” he affirmed

Furthermore, the Rector emphasized that the struggle of today’s generation is no longer fought with weapons, but through mastery of knowledge, technology, innovation, and impactful contributions.
“A nation that upholds knowledge and technological advancement is a nation that will succeed. We cannot wait for other countries to build this nation, we must be the ones to move forward,” he asserted.

In closing his remarks, the Rector of Unram delivered an inspirational message, encouraging the entire academic community to ensure that every step they take generates value and positive impact.

“Let us make our university a place that creates real impact and contributes to the well-being of society, always bringing benefit to the nation. May the spirit of Heroes Day continue to live within every step we take.”

The commemoration of Heroes Day also reinforces Unram’s commitment not only to producing outstanding graduates with strong Pancasila values, but also to shaping individuals who create real impact through knowledge, research, and innovation and delivering meaningful benefits to society.
