Unram Hosts Nuffic Southeast Asia Visit for EMPM Virtual Top-Up Student Monitoring

Mataram, University of Mataram – Universitas Mataram (Unram) welcomed representatives from Nuffic Southeast Asia in an official visit to monitor the implementation of the European Union Mobility Programme for Myanmar (EMPM). The meeting took place at the Rectorate Meeting Room (2/12) and was attended by: Mr. Arief Maulana, Ms. Lidya Veradilla, and Ms. Kustin from Nuffic Southeast Asia; Dwi Suswanto, S.Kom., MM., Head of the Academic Bureau; Dr. Dewi Satria Elmiana, Vice-Head of OIA Unram; Ahmad Junaidi, Ph.D., Head of the Center for International Learning; as well as study program coordinators hosting EMPM students.
Dr. Dewi Satria Elmiana, representing the Vice Rector for Planning, Cooperation, and Information, opened the session by expressing her appreciation for the visit. She highlighted Unram’s strong engagement with the EMPM program, noting that Unram currently hosts 22 EMPM Virtual Mobilities Scholarship (Virtual Top-Up Scholarship) scholarship recipients—the highest number among Indonesian universities. “We are very pleased to finally meet in person after many online meetings. It is an honor to welcome you to Unram,” she said.
Representing Nuffic Southeast Asia, Mr. Arief Maulana conveyed his gratitude for Unram’s warm reception. He emphasized that the purpose of the visit was to monitor Myanmar students studying at Unram as part of the EU-funded initiative. He also highlighted the European Union’s continued commitment to supporting education opportunities for Myanmar students despite the ongoing emergency situation in their home country. The EMPM program is scheduled to conclude in December 2026.
Nuffic Southeast Asia also serves as an implementing partner of the EMPM Virtual Mobilities Scholarship (Virtual Top-Up Scholarship). This scheme supports Myanmar students whose studies were disrupted due to the national crisis. These students are continuing students, not new applicants, who receive temporary academic placement—up to four semesters—at partner universities across ASEAN. They will ultimately graduate from their home universities. A total of seven universities across Southeast Asia participate in the program, including three universities in Indonesia, one of which is Unram.
The meeting continued with discussions on the academic progress and welfare of Myanmar students at Unram, followed by program updates and recommendations presented by Ahmad Junaidi, Ph.D. The session concluded with both institutions reaffirming their shared commitment to ensuring continuous academic support and successful study pathways for Myanmar students under the EMPM program.
