Mataram, University of Mataram — The University of Mataram (Unram) held its December 2025/2026 Graduation Ceremony on Thursday, 4 December 2025, at the M. Yusuf Abu Bakar Auditorium. As part of the event, Unram’s Rector, Prof. Ir. Bambang Hari Kusumo, M.Agr.St., Ph.D., initiated a solidarity action as a form of concern for communities affected by recent natural disasters in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.

The solidarity action was carried out simultaneously, involving thousands of graduates, parents, and academic staff in attendance. Prof. Bambang invited all participants to sing a solidarity song while watching amateur footage of the disaster displayed on the main screen. At the same moment, Unram also opened donation boxes to allow attendees to directly contribute to humanitarian relief efforts.

The Professor of Agriculture emphasized that graduation is not only an academic celebration but also an opportunity to reaffirm the humanitarian values upheld by Unram.

“As members of the academic community, we must not turn a blind eye to the situations unfolding around us. Amid today’s joy, let us offer our prayers and deepest empathy to our brothers and sisters in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. May this small act of care become meaningful energy that strengthens us all,” he stated.

The atmosphere inside the auditorium turned solemn and emotional as attendees sang the solidarity song together. Graduates appeared enthusiastic yet deeply moved by the humanitarian call. The disaster footage shown on screen provided a real depiction of the conditions faced by affected communities.

Through this initiative, Unram reaffirms its commitment to social responsibility as an integral part of higher education. The academic community of Unram is expected to continue being agents of change—individuals who excel not only intellectually but also possess strong compassion and social awareness.
