FKIK Unram Strengthens Health Support for Disaster-Stricken Communities in Southeast Aceh

Mataram, University of Mataram —The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of Mataram (FKIK Unram), demonstrated its humanitarian commitment by deploying a Disaster Response Team to Southeast Aceh Regency. The team’s arrival was warmly welcomed by the Southeast Aceh Regency Government, including the Regent and regional officials, as a collective effort to support post-disaster community health recovery on Wednesday (18 December). This initiative reflects FKIK Unram’s active role in disaster response, particularly in strengthening health services and assisting affected communities during the recovery phase
On the first day of deployment, the FKIK Unram team focused on conducting an initial field assessment to obtain a comprehensive understanding of on-site conditions. The assessment aimed to map the health status of affected communities, identify priority healthcare needs, evaluate the condition of health service facilities, and anticipate potential secondary health risks. This mapping process was carried out collaboratively, with direct facilitation from the Head of the Southeast Aceh Regency Health Office and relevant officials.
The FKIK Unram Disaster Response Team, comprising six general practitioners and two medical specialists, provided healthcare support tailored to the needs identified through the initial situational analysis. Subsequent technical and operational coordination was conducted through the Southeast Aceh Regency Health Office to ensure service integration with the local health system and to enhance the overall effectiveness of the disaster response.
Following the situational analysis, the FKIK Unram Disaster Response Team prepared and delivered healthcare services in the affected areas, encompassing basic medical care, promotive and preventive health activities, and support for strengthening local health services in accordance with community needs.
This disaster response initiative was supported by the Directorate of Research and Community Service, Directorate General of Research and Development, Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemendiktisaintek), in collaboration with the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) of Unram. The support reflects strong synergy between the government and higher education institutions in fostering the active involvement of the academic community in needs-based humanitarian responses.
This initiative reflects FKIK Unram’s commitment to the implementation of the Tridharma of higher education, particularly community service, and represents a tangible contribution of the academic community in supporting health responses during disaster situations.
