Mataram, University of Mataram — The Senate of the University of Mataram (Unram) convened the Evaluation and Appointment Session for Rector Candidates for the 2026–2030 period on Thursday (18/12) at the Unram Senate Conference Room. From the five prospective candidates who completed all stages of the selection process, the Senate of Unram appointed three candidates to be subsequently submitted to the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia.
Based on the results of the Senate of Unram vote, Prof. Dr. Sukardi, S.Pd., M.Pd. received 34 votes, Prof. Muhamad Ali, S.Pt., M.Si., Ph.D. garnered 16 votes, and Prof. Dr. Kurniawan, S.H., M.Hum. obtained six votes. Meanwhile, Prof. Dedy Suhendra, M.Si., Ph.D. received one vote, and Prof. Yusron Saadi, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D. received two votes. Accordingly, the three candidates with the highest votes were officially designated as the Rector candidates of Unram to proceed to the next stage of the selection process.
The three Rector candidates will next be formally submitted to the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia in accordance with applicable regulations and procedures. This process is part of the state university rector selection stages, which uphold the principles of transparency, accountability, and good governance.
Dr. Muhaimin, S.H., M.Hum., Secretary of the Senate of Unram and Chair of the Rector Election Committee, stated that the entire selection process was conducted safely, smoothly, and in a conducive manner, fully compliant with the regulations.
“The next stage, the Senate of Unram will submit three documents to the Minister: the formal record of candidate determination, each candidate’s curriculum vitae, and the documents outlining their vision, mission, and work program,” he explained.
The submission of the screening results is scheduled for 21–24 December 2025. Subsequently, the selection of Unram’s Rector candidates will take place in a closed Senate meeting together with the Minister or an appointed representative, during the period of 2–9 January 2026.
In line with the regulations for selecting rectors of state universities, the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia holds a 35 percent voting right, while the Senate of Unram holds 65 percent. Dr. Muhaimin emphasized that all three candidates have an equal opportunity to be elected.
“All candidates have equal rights and opportunities. The final decision rests with the Minister, who will take into account each candidate’s vision, mission, work program, and track record,” he concluded.
