Mataram, University of Mataram – The University of Mataram (Unram) held the Eid al-Fitr prayer on 1 Syawal 1446 H, Monday, March 31, 2025, at the Rectorate Field. The prayer, which began at 06.30 WITA, was attended by Unram’s academic community as well as the general public. Acting as the imam was Ustadz Abdul Wahab, S.Pd.I., while the Eid sermon (khutbah) was delivered by Dr. M.A. Muazar Habibi, S.Psi., M.Pd.

Unram organized this Eid prayer as a form of care for the surrounding community by providing a place for communal worship. Additionally, the event aimed to strengthen the bond between Unram’s academic community and the public, foster unity, and reinforce the spirit of togetherness in the Eid celebration.

In his sermon, Dr. M.A. Muazar Habibi, S.Psi., M.Pd., emphasized that Ramadhan is not only a month of worship but also a month of tarbiyah (education). He highlighted that a person’s first education, known as tarbiyatul ula, begins within the family. Therefore, he urged parents not to focus solely on their careers and academic achievements but to also pay adequate attention to their children’s education.

“Let us not be parents with prestigious degrees who are too busy with campus work, Scopus, and other matters to the point that we neglect our children’s education,” he reminded.

In a solemn atmosphere, Unram’s Rector, Prof. Ir. Bambang Hari Kusumo, M.Agr.St., Ph.D., delivered a speech emphasizing the importance of continuing the values cultivated during Ramadhan.

“The greatest battle is the battle against our desires, which we have been training ourselves to fight throughout the month of Ramadhan. Hopefully, inshaAllah, we will pass this test,” he stated.

He also emphasized that fasting is not merely about abstaining from food and drink but also about training oneself to avoid sin, increase piety, and strengthen the relationship with Allah SWT. Furthermore, Ramadhan teaches the importance of social awareness through the practice of charity and empathy for others.

“One of the lessons of Ramadhan is to remind us to give charity regularly. We do not have to wait until we are wealthy to share with others. Even a smile is a form of charity,” he added.

At the end of his speech, the Rector encouraged all attendees to continue enhancing their faith and piety in the month of Syawal and beyond.

“May our acts of worship be accepted, inshaAllah. I sincerely ask for forgiveness, both physically and spiritually. Let us continue our journey in Syawal with stronger faith and piety. May we become righteous individuals (muttaqin), aamiin yaa rabbal ‘aalamiin,” he concluded.

The Eid al-Fitr prayer at Unram was conducted in an orderly and solemn manner, marking the celebration of victory after a full month of fasting.
