Cross-Program Synergy at Unram Drives Digital Cross-Program

Mataram, University of Mataram – On Thursday, August 14, 2025, the University of Mataram (Unram) reaffirmed its commitment as an impact-driven campus through a unique collaboration across three disciplines with the “Digitalization of Coastal Ecosystem Education” initiative in Cemara Hamlet. Led by Ayu Adhita Damayanti, S.Pi., M.Si. (Marine Science), the team brought together the expertise of Moh. Ali Albar, S.T., M.Eng. (Informatics Engineering) and Dr. Prayogi Dwina Angga, S.Or., M.Pd. (Primary School Teacher Education) to create a breakthrough in technology-based environmental education.
The synergy among the three study programs resulted in a comprehensive approach: Marine Science provided ecosystem-based scientific content tailored to the local context, Informatics Engineering developed a digital platform adaptable to infrastructure limitations, while Primary School Teacher Education (PGSD) designed creative learning methods aligned with children’s psychology.
“This is a tangible form of knowledge transfer from the university that directly addresses the root of community issues,” emphasized Ayu Adhita.
The program has produced several outputs, including animated videos, interactive applications, and educational games about mangroves, conservation zones, marine animals, marine debris, and disaster mitigation. These were directly tested with 90 students at State Elementary School 5, South Lembar. Beyond improving environmental understanding, this method also sparked an unprecedented enthusiasm for learning.
At the community level, the development of digital content has empowered the Cemare Eco Green Mangrove Society to deliver environmental education to coastal children in more engaging ways. The digitalization of coastal ecosystems has transformed conventional methods into more meaningful activities that capture children’s interest and enthusiasm.
The Principal of State Elementary School 5, South Lembar, H. Nurudin, S.Pd.I, stated that the program has opened up a new perspective.
“This digital media is not only effective for children, but also serves as a valuable reference for teachers in developing teaching methods especially for our school, which is located on the coastline,” he said.
The Unram team plans to expand the program to other coastal villages and involve more stakeholders, ensuring that the activities carried out will have a greater impact on the wider community, particularly coastal populations.
