Mataram, University of Mataram – University of Mataram (Unram) officially launched the SALL E-Learning platform as a breakthrough in digital English learning for students. The launch was held in simultaneous with the socialization of UMEPT (University of Mataram English Proficiency Test) on Monday, June 30, 2025 at the Unram Dome Building.

In his speech, the Rector of Unram, Prof. Ir. Bambang Hari Kusumo, M.Agr.St., Ph.D. emphasized the importance of driving this program from each study program down to the bottom so that it can run optimally. This digital platform is a manifestation of the university’s commitment to provide wider and more flexible access to learning for students.

Furthermore, the Rector also emphasized the importance of providing facilities to support English language skills for students in each faculty.

“I asked the Vice Rector 1 at the time to create a kind of service center in the faculties that facilitates our students, so that they can get or achieve TOEFL scores or scores that are close to the requirements. Those services had to be built immediately. Then we call it Self Access Language Learning (SALL) in all faculties,” added Prof. Bambang.

In addition, the Head of UPA Language Center, Boniesta Zulandha Melani, M.A., Ph.D. said that Unram continues to be committed to providing adaptive and easily accessible English learning facilities for students, including through the launch of the SALL innovation.

“The University of Mataram through the Rector’s guidebook and Circular Letter which regulates the TOEFL score requirements, requires students to achieve a TOEFL score of at least 400 for most undergraduate study programs, 450 for Masters, and 500 for Doctoral. To achieve this policy, the University of Mataram through the Academic Support Unit of the Language Center continues to strive to provide learning facilities that are adaptive and easily accessible to students and the academic community,” she explained.

“One of the strategic innovations that we are going to launch today is the SALL E-Learning project. SALL E-Learning is designed to support the implementation of SALL tutorials or LTOR programs in each faculty,” continued Unram’s Head of UPA Language Center, Boniesta.

Boniesta explained that the launch of this independent learning platform was designed to be a solution to learning facilities and program affordability for all students and the academic community.

“This independent learning platform is expected to overcome the limitations of learning space facilities, the number of tutors, and also the direct presence of students in participating in the LTOR program. We hope that SALL E-Learning can be an inclusive alternative solution for students and the academic community who cannot participate in offline English language improvement programs,” she added.

The SALL E-Learning program is a form of interactive module development based on H5P technology that has been uploaded to the MOOC platform (Massive open online course ). This platform was developed as an innovative self-learning space to improve the English language skills of Unram students, especially in order to fulfill the graduation requirement with a minimum of 400 TOEFL score.

The initiative, which has been running since 2022 in 5 batches, features comprehensive interactive materials, covering five main components of English learning: Listening, Grammar, Writing, Vocabulary, and TOEFL preparation. Each module is designed with an interactive approach that allows students to learn independently with an engaging and effective method.

The SALL E-Learning platform also serves as the foundation for the ELTON (English Language Tutorials for Unram Students) program, which facilitates English learning both offline and online with various learning levels ranging from General English, Pre-TOEFL, to TOEFL Preparation.

The main strength of the SALL E-Learning platform lies in its ease of access. Since June 2025, all learning modules have been available at berajahunram.ac.id which is directly connected to the Unram registration system (sireg). This integration allows students to access learning materials using their academic accounts without the need for additional registration.

This platform offers high learning flexibility, where students can access materials anytime and anywhere according to their schedule and needs. H5P-based interactive features provide a more engaging and effective learning experience than conventional learning methods.
