Faculty of Agriculture Celebrates 58th Dies Natalis with the Spirit of Sustainable Development

Mataram, University of Mataram – The Faculty of Agriculture, University of Mataram (Unram) enthusiastically celebrated its 58th Dies Natalis on Saturday, January 25, 2025. This celebration carries a big theme, “Low Carbon Development for Food Security and Climate Change”, as a reflection of the global challenge faced today.
The top event of the Dies Natalis was enlivened with various series of interesting and educational activities. Highlights included a stunning paragliding attraction, blood donation, a healthy walk, the use of electric bicycles in the campus environment as a concrete step to support a low-carbon living culture, the release of manyar birds as a symbol of environmental conservation, a local product bazaar by alumni, and special performances from the Faculty of Agriculture academic community. Not to forget, the distribution of door prizes and other activities further enlivened the event.
This celebration was also attended by the Rector of Unram, Prof. Ir. Bambang Hari Kusumo, M.Agr.St., Ph.D., who is also an alumnus of the Faculty of Agriculture, along with the Vice Rector, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, lecturers, alumni from 1979 to 1990, academic community, and students.
Before the main event, the Faculty of Agriculture had held a series of supporting activities, such as sports competitions, sanitation competitions, community service, talk shows at RRI, national seminars, scientific meetings, alumni meetings, and planting medicinal plants. All of these activities illustrate the Faculty of Agriculture’s commitment in making a real contribution to society and the environment.
Dr. Indriyatno, S.Hut., M.P., lecturer at the Faculty of Agriculture and head of this year’s Dies Natalis committee, explained that the theme is very relevant to the current world situation.
“Being aware of the numerous natural disasters caused by climate change, there must be action taken together. As academics and practitioners in agriculture, we have a big role to play in encouraging innovations and policies that support sustainable development, reduce carbon emissions, and improve food security in the face of increasingly real climate change,” he explained.
In his remarks, the Rector of Unram, Prof. Bambang, expressed his pride for the long journey of the Faculty of Agriculture for 58 years.
“I feel happy and proud to see the alumni never forget their beloved alma mater. This celebration takes us back to the days of the 80s and 90s. This 58th Anniversary should be a momentum for us to jointly build the University of Mataram, Faculty of Agriculture, and provide benefits to the wider community, especially people in need,” he added.
He also emphasized the importance of maintaining the sustainability of the low carbon theme in campus life.
“In line with the low carbon theme, let’s make the University of Mataram like a beautiful garden. A place that when we visit, provides comfort and inspiration,” he added.
Several alumni, such as Nurjanah Ilyas and Nana, also expressed their appreciation for the significant development that the Faculty of Agriculture has achieved.
“There are many positive changes that we see, both in terms of building arrangement, facilities, services, and education system. Hopefully in the future the Faculty of Agriculture will be more advanced, successful, and continue to present progressive innovations,” said Nurjanah.
The 58th Dies Natalis celebration of the Faculty of Agriculture was closed with a warm atmosphere full of intimacy. This spirit of togetherness is expected to be a strong foothold to continue to move forward, bringing the Faculty of Agriculture to a glorious future.
