Mataram, University of Mataram – The University of Mataran (Unram) delegation attended the opening of the 17th MTQMN in 2023 on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at Brawijaya University, Malang. The event was officially opened online by Prof. Dr. Mohammad Mahfud Mahmodin, S.H., S.U., M.I.P., as the Board of Trustees of Universitas Brawijaya.

In his brief remarks, Prof. Mahfud emphasized the importance of MTQMN as a guide to the implementation of the academic world in universities in Indonesia. He noted that the progress of a campus is usually reflected in two main things, namely strict academic norms and good tradition norms.

“The basis for organizing education in higher education must follow Article 31 of the Constitution which emphasizes that education is based on faith, taqwa, and akhlaq, and aims to advance science and technology. I hope that this MTQMN will produce national leaders who uphold quranic values in their daily behavior,” said Prof. Mahfud.

This message was in line with the remarks of the Rector of Brawijaya University, Prof. Widodo, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D. Med.Sc., who stated that the participants will be cadres who will bring changes not only in Indonesia but also in world civilization. They will combine science and technology with knowledge and the spiritual values of the Quran in their actions.

Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Drg. Miftakhul Cahyati, Sp.PM, said that the MTQMN this time was attended by 2,653 participants from 213 universities under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kedikbudristek). They will compete in 11 branches of competition with 15 musabaqoh fields that include various activities, ranging from debates in Arabic and English to Quran application design, Fahmil Quran, Hifdzil Quran in 10, 20, and 30 Juz, Quranic Scientific Writing, contemporary Khatil Quran, Khatil Quran decoration, Maulid Nabi, Qira’ah Sab’ah, Syarhil, Tilawah, and Tartil.

The event was also attended by Unram’s Vice Rector for Student Affairs and Alumni, Dr. Sujita S.T, M.T, along with caravan representatives wearing Sasak and Bima traditional clothes. They gave full support to the Unram contingent, which although not all of them could attend the opening ceremony because they had to maintain their health and practice for the match the next day.

However, the Unram contingent remains optimistic and ready to bring home achievements. The Unram contingent at MTQ this time managed to pass 28 of their students who will compete in 11 branches of competition starting from Sunday, November 5 to November 8, 2023.
