Mataram, Mataram University – Postgraduate Program at the University of Mataram (Unram) held a National Seminar on Postgraduate Challenges and Strategies Towards Indonesia Gold 2045 in the Senate Meeting Room, Floor III of the Rector’s Building. The activities was presented by Prof. Ir. Nizam, M.Sc., DIC., Ph.D., IPU., ASEAN. Eng., and this was held on Friday (4/8) morning.

Unram Postgraduate Director, Prof. Ir. Sarjan, M.Agr.Cp., Ph.D., reported that 55 guests attended from 32 universities.

“The guests who attended this event represented forums of postgraduate leadership in the eastern, central and western regions of Indonesia from various universities with the PTN-BH, PTN-BLU and PTN-Satker clusters, as well as postgraduate leaders from PTS,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Prof. Ir. Bambang Hari Kusumo, M.Agr.St., Ph.D., as the Rector of Unram, in his speech he said that, this is the time when we welcome 100 years of independent Indonesia in 2045.

“We predict that it will be a glorious year, even predicted that it will become the 4th country with the largest economic power in the world, but it could be missed when we don’t prepare the young generation properly,” he explained.

He said one part of the institutions in Indonesia that carried out the mandate were educational institutions, especially universities. If the right strategy is not implemented, then Indonesian Gold 2045 will only be a dream.

“I am sure and believe that in this meeting there will be new ideas and diamond ideas that will be brought to the ministry in improving our human resources. Please be reconciled, because our goal is not only to educate, to make this nation smart, to make it victorious to reach the golden age, but also to educate them so that they can appreciate the struggle of the nation’s predecessors for how to protect the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia, “said Prof. Bambang.

The keynote speaker at the National Seminar was Prof. Ir. Nizam, M.Sc., DIC., Ph.D., IPU., ASEAN. Eng., who brought the subject matter of Postgraduate Development Policy for Excellent and Competitive Human Resources.

“It has become our collective determination to emphasize human resource development as the key to the progress of the nation. We all know that no nation can progress without superior human resources,” he said.

Nevertheless, Prof. Nizam was also aware that the quality of education in Indonesia is still lagging behind other countries. However, this nation must not be discouraged, everyone must believe that the teachers, principals and lecturers have high enthusiasm to educate this nation.

“Currently, with various platforms developed by the ministry, the goal is that the spirit of mutual cooperation, the spirit of learning together, can really be realized, really built, so that we are not alone when facing problems,” he continued.

Related to technological developments, Prof. Nizam asked, educators do not need to worry about new developments and discoveries such as the birth of GPT or Artificial Intelligence (AI) chat.

“There are two options for responding to the presence of technology, namely choosing to close oneself or take advantage of the technology,” emphasized prof. Nizam.

As explained, if we do not strengthen the nation’s competitiveness, then Indonesia will continue to be left behind. That is why technology requires innovation.

“If we want our economy to progress, then we must build our economy based on innovation. And that innovation should be on all of us, in higher education, “concluded Prof. Nizam.
