The Ministry of Law and Human Rights Goes to Campus. The Deputy Ministry of Law and Human Rights Referred Unram Students to Understand the National Criminal Code.

Mataram, The University of Mataram – The Indonesian Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kumham) held Kumham Goes to Campus 2023 in the University of Mataram (Unram) on Thursday (13/7) at the Unram Dome Building.

The activity aims to socialize the Criminal Code (KUHP) and the Patent Bill and Industrial Design Bill to students from all campuses in Mataram and also The Law Drive Apparatus to the Regional Leadership Communication Forum to gain better understanding of the rules contained in the National Criminal Code.

The Indonesian Ministry of Law and Human Rights will carry out the “Kumham Goes to Campus 2023” program in 16 cities in Indonesia. Now, the University of Mataram is the 9th campus in Indonesia which is a forum to socialize various policies, programs and services of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights to the community, especially for all the academic community.

Prof. Ir. Bambang Hari Kusumo, M.Agr.St., Ph.D., said that, the Intellectual Property Rights are very important for individuals, groups and also important for a country, because there are inherent individual rights, group rights and also economic benefits that exist in it.

“If we look in to the Intellectual Property Right in various countries, for example China, Japan, South Korea, which are now growing into developed countries, their intellectual property rights far exceed their publications. For example, Japan, has twice as much intellectual property rights as its publications. For this reason, of course, this intellectual property right can be a picture of the progress of a nation, this is also an illustration of how the nation protects its property rights which are then beneficial to the nation’s economy,”. He said.

Furthermore, Prof. Bambang said that there are many national treasures that must be saved, for example Indonesian batik, cultural values such as dances and so on which then become a concern for the government.

“One of our efforts in Unram is encourage how we improve the Intellectual Property Rights and continue to be developed. We provide sufficient research funding for our researchers and then we create institutions that take care of IPR and others, then we incentivize those who succeed in owning simple patents and IPR,” he told all participants.

Additionally, the Rector of Unram expressed his deepest gratitude on behalf of the host for the implementation of Kumham Goes to Campus 2023.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights, Prof. Dr. Edward O.S. Hiariej, S.H., M.Hum., who was also the Keynote Speech at the event also expressed his high appreciation to Unram for being willing to host the Kumham Goes to Campus 2023 event. In his presentation, Prof. Edward explained that the law trains all of us to think logically and structured. “Because the National Criminal Code changes the mindset, changes the mindset of law enforcement officials, the community and all of us,” he said.

He also explained related to the initiation of the formation of the Criminal Code until the promulgation of Law Number 1 of 2023, the substance and vision and mission contained.

On this occasion, the Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights gave the book of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code (KUHP) to the Rector of Unram, followed by the exchange of placards and panel discussions from the speakers. The activity ended up with a discussion, question and answer by more than 500 participants of Kumham Goes to Campus at Unram.
