Mataram, University of Mataram – The University of Mataram (Unram) Clinic organized a free Pap Smear service at the Unram Clinic Examination Room on Thursday, September 18, 2025. This initiative was a collaborative effort between the Unram Clinic Health Promotion Team, BPJS Kesehatan, and Kimia Farma Laboratory Mataram, aimed at the early detection of cervical cancer, one of the leading causes of death among women in Indonesia, particularly in Mataram.

The activity also served as an opportunity to introduce the Unram Clinic and its services more directly to the university community and the wider public.

In a separate statement, the Head of the Unram Clinic, Dr. Bayu Tirta Dirja, Ph.D., Sp.KL., Subsp.KT(K), elaborated on the available services at the clinic as well as the Pap Smear examination procedure.

“There is a common perception that the Unram Clinic only serves university students. However, our presence in the heart of Mataram extends beyond that we also provide health services for the wider public, with standards equivalent to those of community health centers (Puskesmas) and other clinics in the city. Today’s agenda focuses on cervical cancer Pap Smear examinations, and similar initiatives will continue in the future,” he stated.

During the event, the Unram Clinic Health Promotion Team also explained the Pap Smear examination process and introduced the range of services available at the clinic. These include Emergency Services, General Polyclinic (for children and adults), Dental Polyclinic, Laboratory and Pharmacy services, Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Polyclinic, Tuberculosis examinations, Sexually Transmitted Infection screenings, HIV testing, Drug-Free Certificate examinations and issuance, as well as Health Certificate issuance. In the future, inpatient care and acupuncture services are also being prepared.

The screening was attended by both members of the Unram academic community and the general public, who participated with great enthusiasm.

“The examination and this initiative have been very beneficial for us. The staff were friendly and responsive, the facilities complete, and the rooms clean. We hope activities like this will continue in the future. At first, we thought services were available only for Unram students, but it turns out the services are open to the wider community as well. We plan to transfer our BPJS to Unram Clinic as soon as possible,” said one of the participants.
