Unram Graduation Ceremony October 2025, Abdul Gawi Inspires Students with Disabilities

Mataram, University of Mataram – University of Mataram (Unram) held its October 2025 Graduation Ceremony in two sessions, on 8 and 9 October 2025, at the M. Yusuf Abubakar Auditorium. This event was a historic moment for graduates who had completed their studies in various faculties at Unram.
The graduation ceremony was officially opened by the Rector of Unram, Prof. Ir. Bambang Hari Kusumo, M.Agr.St., Ph.D., who also delivered an inspirational speech and message to all graduates. In his speech, the Rector of Unram reminded everyone that the cumulative grade point average (GPA) is not the only measure of success, but rather the ability to adapt, communicate, and social sensitivity that will determine a person’s success in the workplace.
This year, one of the most inspiring stories came from a visually impaired graduate, Abdul Gawi, who successfully completed his studies with great effort. In his interview, he expressed his hope that his graduation would motivate other students with disabilities.
“I hope that my graduation will give hope to my visually impaired friends that people with disabilities can graduate too. Don’t give up hope and don’t despair,” said the graduate of the English Education Study Programme.
He also conveyed a message to Unram to continue raising awareness and support for students with disabilities, “The hope is that students with disabilities can be facilitated and provided with proper services. Perhaps this can also be done through affirmation, such as a special quota for students with disabilities, as a tangible manifestation that Unram is an inclusive campus.”
The first and second graduation sessions ran smoothly and solemnly. Each session was attended by university leaders, the senate, lecturers, parents, and invited guests. In addition to the academic procession, the event was also enlivened by various performances, ranging from artistic performances by UKMU Seni dan Budaya to performances by graduates who added to the festive atmosphere.
This year, the number of Unram graduates reached 2,328, consisting of diploma, bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programmes. Unram remains committed to producing excellent human resources with integrity, competitiveness, and tangible contributions. This graduation ceremony is hoped to mark a new beginning for the graduates as they apply the knowledge, values, and spirit of unity gained during their education at Unram.
