Unram Integrated Laboratory Holds Workshop on ISO 17025-Based Laboratory Accreditation Guidance

Mataram, University of Mataram – The Integrated Laboratory of the University of Mataram organized a workshop titled “Assistance, Training, and Preparation of ISO 17025-Based Laboratory Accreditation Documents” on Monday, October 13, 2025, at Fave Hotel, Mataram City.
This workshop was held to support the quality improvement of laboratories within Unram, as well as to take concrete steps towards meeting international quality standards. Through this workshop, Unram aims to strengthen the capacity of laboratory resources so that the results of tests conducted can be recognized both nationally and internationally.
The Head of the Integrated Laboratory, Eka Sunarwidhi Prasedya, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D., in his speech said that this activity became the initial stage in the process of assisting laboratories at Unram to achieve the ISO 17025 standard. He emphasized that accreditation is not only essential for quality improvement but also serves as the foundation for strengthening laboratory management and professional services.
“For this first stage, we are focusing on laboratories that are ready to be accredited. It is expected that the Unram Integrated Laboratory can serve as an umbrella system for other laboratories within the university, ensuring that documents and quality management systems are well integrated,” he explained.
Furthermore, Eka explained that not all laboratories are required to undergo the accreditation process, but rather the focus is on laboratories that provide testing services for external parties, such as industries, institutions, or the public who require officially certified test results.
“Educational or practical laboratories are not required for accreditation because their focus is on learning and improving basic competencies. However, for testing service laboratories whose results are used by external stakeholders, accreditation is essential to ensure the validity and accuracy of the results,” he said.
According to him, the implementation of ISO 17025 will be the foundation for the laboratory quality management system at Unram, which will later support the strengthening of research and increase revenue based on laboratory services.
“With an accredited laboratory, test results will have legal and scientific validity and recognition. This will serve as a reference for other laboratories at Unram to develop credible and efficient testing systems,” he added.
This workshop also served as a forum for laboratory managers and faculty leaders to discuss and align their perceptions in the preparation of accreditation documents and laboratory management based on international standards.
