Mataram, University of Mataram – University of Mataram (Unram) again conducted the Computer-Based Written Exam (UTBK) for the Mandiri admission pathway from June 16 to 22, 2025. This year, in addition to a rise in the number of participants reaching 7,208 Unram also introduced a new innovation in the exam process by implementing a digital attendance system.

One of the significant changes compared to the previous year is the use of QR Code technology for attendance. Previously, attendance was done manually through printed attendance albums containing photos and signatures of participants, but now attendance is simply done by scanning the QR Code through the supervisor’s mobile device.

“Supervisors only need to use an Android or iOS-based cellphone to scan the QR Code from the participant’s card. After scanning, the complete identity and photo of the participant will immediately appear,” said the Head of Academic and Student Affairs Bureau of Unram, Dwi Suswanto, S.Kom., M.M. on Wednesday (6/18/2025).

This digitization allows the participant verification process to be faster and more accurate. The system will display important data such as full name, graduation year, date of birth, and photos of participants, all of which can be directly matched by supervisors in just a single view.

” Previously, supervisors had to open page after page to match faces with photos in the attendance album. Now one scan is all it takes, and all the information is instantly available. This is efficient and saves a lot of time,” he added.

In addition to increasing the speed of verification, this step is also part of Unram’s policy towards a paperless system. With digital attendance, the campus managed to reduce the use of printing documents that previously cost a lot of stationery and secretariat staff time.

“This initiative comes purely from Unram, as part of the governance efficiency efforts. The technology is already available, we just need to maximize its use to support the principles of efficiency, economy, and accountability,” he said.

Not only the attendance system, in the future Unram is also examining the possibility of digitizing other aspects of the exam implementation, such as the examination reports. The plan is that these documents will also be converted into digital format to make them easier to access and archive.

“If physical documents require storage space and a long search time, digital archives can be searched in seconds without using up physical space,” he explained.

This innovation is part of Unram’s commitment to providing adaptive, environmentally friendly, and information technology-based education services, in line with the direction of digital transformation of higher education in Indonesia.
