Unram Library Workshop Boosts 21st-Century Digital Literacy Skills

Mataram, University of Mataram – To strengthen digital literacy, the University of Mataram (Unram) organized a Seminar and Training through the University Library (UPA) on Thursday (September 18) at the Unram Library Hall. The event carried the theme “21st-Century Digital Literacy: Strategies to Build an Excellent and Globally Competitive Academic Community.”
Unram invited four distinguished speakers to share insights on the role, utilization, and development of a digital literacy ecosystem in higher education for students, lecturers, and the wider academic community. The speakers included Dr. Gunawan, S.Pd., M.Pd. (UNESCO Research Team), Dr. Supratman, M.Pd. (Academic, UNSA), Dr. H. Hariwitono, M.Pd. (NTB Literacy Observer), and H. Dwijanto Suandaru, S.E. (Marketing Manager, ProQuest Indonesia).
The Head of Unram’s Library, Muslimin, S.Sos., M.M., in his report, expressed his hopes that the workshop would raise awareness among library managers, librarians, and students as agents of change about the importance of understanding digital literacy in the 21st century.
“The future depends on how we project today by learning from the best practices for tomorrow. Students are agents of change, students are social control, and that has become the foundation for carrying out academic processes and activities at Unram,” said Muslimin.
In her opening remarks, Vice Rector I for Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Sitti Hilyana, M.Si., expressed her pride in the workshop being held at Unram, emphasizing the importance of taking early steps to drive change, particularly in strengthening digital literacy within the higher education environment. Through this activity, Unram hopes to foster greater awareness of the urgency of digital literacy in today’s era.
“To bring a library to life, data alone is not enough. It requires mapping carried out by librarians who actively participate, so that together we can track progress reflected in data such as reading interest and the growth of student visits from year to year,” she remarked.
With the presentations delivered by the speakers and the interactive discussions with participants, this workshop is expected to serve as a step for Unram to move toward becoming an excellent and globally competitive university by ensuring that the knowledge gained is implemented across its academic community.
