Mataram, University of Mataram — The University of Mataram (Unram) officially released 1,786 students to participate in the Community Service Program (KKN) for the July–August 2025 period. The send-off ceremony was held at the Unram Rectorate Field on Tuesday (July 8), carrying the theme: “Impactful KKN: Smart Literacy and Sustainable Local Economy Based on the Creative, Blue, and Green Economy.”

The Head of Unram’s Research and Community Service Institute (LPPM), Dr. Andi Chairil Ichsan, S.Hut., M.Si., in his report said that the implementation of KKN was directed to have real impact in the community, with the main focus on empowering rural communities and increasing literacy in various regions of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

“We hope this theme can encourage students to strengthen the development of data science and data intelligence. This is an important part of preparing them to implement their knowledge in line with the context of Impactful Science and Technology, as Kemendikbudristek’s tagline,” said Dr. Andi.

He also added that Unram must continuously move to become a campus that has a broad impact on all aspects of social, economic and educational life of the people in West Nusa Tenggara.

For the implementation of KKN Village Community Empowerment (PMD), students are divided into 177 groups that are spread across four districts on Lombok Island, including West Lombok, Central Lombok, East Lombok, and North Lombok.

On the other hand, the KKN program with a focus on community literacy involves 50 groups of students, spread across three districts: West Lombok, Central Lombok, and East Lombok.

“In this period, LPPM Unram is also collaborating with the National Library to promote broader literacy development. Students will be directly involved in improving literacy access and knowledge within local communities,” added Dr. Andi.

In his remarks, the Rector of Unram, Prof. Ir. Bambang Hari Kusumo, M.Agr.St., Ph.D., emphasized the crucial role of students as agents of change who bring real benefits to rural communities.

“KKN is not merely an academic activity, but a concrete form of service to the community. Students must be present as part of the solution, not just an addition to the event. Show that Unram truly makes an impact for West Nusa Tenggara,” the Rector stated.

He also reminded students to uphold ethics, respect local culture, and build strong relationships with the village communities during their KKN.

“Be someone who can adapt to village life. Ensure that the activities, topics, or themes you bring are well-executed so that your presence is meaningful. Maintain unity among your team. You are the university’s representatives in the community, so uphold the good name of Unram. Pay attention to safety—leave in good condition and return in good condition,” he added.

The July–August 2025 KKN program will run for 45 days. Students are expected to establish partnerships with local communities and village governments and make a positive impact on the villages they serve.
