Mataram, University of Mataram – Another outstanding achievement has been made by one of the students of the University of Mataram (Unram), Ilham Rahmatullah, who won the Silver Medal in the prestigious international innovation competition, International Invention Competition for Young Moslem Scientists (IICYMS) 2024 on August 14, 2024.

The competition was organized by the Indonesian Young Scientists Association in collaboration with the Indonesian Computer University, and followed by participants from five countries, including Indonesia, Iran, Thailand, Nigeria, and Malaysia.

Ilham, a student of the English Education study program at Unram, is the only student representing Unram and West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province in the prestigious event. The competition involved 63 teams from various countries with assessments made by qualified international judges, one of them, Prof. Dr. Raldi Hendro T.S. Koestoer, Ph.D., a principal researcher in the field of Environmental Science at the University of Indonesia.

In an interview conducted by the Unram Public Relations team on Tuesday (2/9/2024), Ilham shared his perspective on his life journey and achievements. He said, “At one time, I once reflected and felt a failure because I was unable to achieve what other people achieved. When I had achieved something different, I then realized that the achievements of others are not a standard of success that contains necessity. Having a standard GPA, not having achieved anything or not being accepted by any scholarship is not a sign of poor quality. The world has a variety of paths so don’t shrink your heart just because you failed in one.”

He emphasized the importance of focusing on personal potential, “Every human being has passion and competence in their own field, and as long as it is good and useful, it is the best achievement. Consistency, hard work, and trusting God are the keys to success.”

This achievement is a source of pride not only for Ilham personally, but also for Unram and the entire academic community. His success proves that with hard work and dedication, students of Unram are able to compete in the international arena and bring the good name of the university in the eyes of the world.
