The Faculty of Law Unram and ISILL Hold Annual Meeting. Discussed the Importance of International Law and Private International Law

Mataram, University of Mataram – Faculty of Law, University of Mataram and Indonesian Society of International Law Lecturers (ISILL) held an Annual Meeting, Upgrading, and Call for Abstracts with the theme “Strengthening Harmonization and Linkage of International Law and Private International Law”. The annual meeting took place on Monday, July 31, 2023 in the Senate Meeting Room, Unram Rectorate.

The activity was attended by the Governor of West Nusa Tenggara Province represented by the Head of the Legal Bureau of the West Nusa Tenggara Provincial Setda, Vice Rector for Planning, Cooperation, and Information Systems Unram, Chairman of ISILL, Dean and all Heads of Sections of Faculty of Law Unram, and International Law Lecturers throughout Indonesia.

The topics which discussed at the meeting included the relevance and linkage of Private International Law in the field of specialization and research in international law, Public International Law as a Faculty Compulsory Course and its relevance in the present, as well as the practice and teaching experience of Public International Law and Private International Law courses at Unram.

The Governor of West Nusa Tenggara Province, represented by the Head of the Legal Bureau of the West Nusa Tenggara Provincial Setda, in his speech also appreciated the holding of the ISILL annual meeting.

“The theme in this time is very relevant for us to discuss together, because strengthening harmonization of International Law and Private International Law are an important step in finding joint solutions in facing global challenges and creating a more stable, fair, and authoritative legal environment at the international level,” said Lalu Rudy Gunawan, S.H., M.H. as Head of the Legal Bureau of the NTB Provincial Setda.

Rudy also hopes that with the support of resource persons from experts, legal practitioners, and academics who are competent in their fields, it will be a productive discussion to exchange ideas, opinions and views in discussing the theme of the meeting.

Chairman of ISILL, Arie Afriansyah, S.H., MIL., Ph.D. said that the theme that carried out this time was very important and relevant for the ISILL association to raise this issue again. According to him, in practice, public private partnerships, which are now a trend of the state and also the private sector in development are increasingly being carried out.

“We as practitioners and observers as well as researchers in International Law and Private International Law are very important to see again how the relationship between the two. And the International Law will certainly always be relevant for the development of Indonesia and how its role in the international arena, “explained Arie.

Vice Rector for Planning, Cooperation, and Information Systems Unram, Prof. Akmaluddin, S.T., M.Sc.(Eng.)., Ph.D. opened the event and conveyed how important it is for Indonesian people not only to be spectators in their own country, but can contribute to Indonesia’s current development by participating as the experts and the other related parties who are certainly bound by International Law.

“Hopefully the event initiated by ISILL and Faculty of Law Unram can be useful and provide good output for the development and progress of Indonesia in the future,” said Prof. Akmaluddin.

The annual meeting, upgrading, and call for abstracts ISILL also became the launching of the Mataram Journal International Law (MaJIL) and the Introduction to International Law Book by lecturers of the Department of International Law Faculty of Law Unram as a form of scientific contribution to the advancement of International Law.

The annual event presented by Prof. Hikmahanto Juwana, S.H., LL.M., Ph.D. from the University of Indonesia; Prof. Atip Latipulhayat, S.H., LL.M., Ph.D. from Padjajaran University; and Dr. Muhammad Risnain, S.H., M.H. from Unram as presenters; moderated by Arie Afriansyah, S.H., MIL., Ph.D. from the University of Indonesia.

The material which presented discusses the teaching of International Law, then related to the relevance and linkage of Private International Law in the field of specialization and research in International Law, and finally discusses the teaching of International Law and Private International Law: Experience at Faculty of Law Unram.
