Actualize National Food Patriots DWP Faterna Unram Holds Cooking Contest of Indonesian Cuisines Based on Livestock Products

Mataram, University of Mataram – The Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP) of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, University of Mataram, in collaboration with UP-MBKM IKU Unram held a Cooking Contest for Indonesian Cuisine Based on Livestock Products at the Volleyball Field of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Unram on Saturday (25/11).

The Cooking Contest of Indonesian Cuisine Based on Livestock Products carried the theme “Indonesian Cuisine Based on Livestock Products to Actualize National Food Patriots”.

Chairwoman of the DWP Faculty of Animal Husbandry of Unram as well as the chief executive of the activity, Embun Suryani, SE, M. Si., Ph.D. in her speech explained that this activity aims to explore student creativity and innovation in processing various livestock products in order to actualize national food patriots where the rector of Unram is mandated as the coordinator of national food patriots in eastern Indonesia.

Furthermore, the chairwoman of the DWP Unit of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry explained the reason why the cooking contest focused on livestock products.

“The demand for animal protein will increase dramatically by about 70% of the current meat demand due to an increase in people’s income, millennials’ awareness of animal protein needs also continues to increase. Meanwhile, millennials’ preference for processed food products from livestock products is currently dominated by imported products such as fast food chicken restaurants, millennials have less interest in local processed products. Through this cooking contest, students are able to process these local products to be accepted by millennials. With the exploration of student creativity, it is expected to increase Unram’s Main Performance Indicators (IKU), “he said.
The judges in the cooking contest consisted of three people, including Chef Achmad Djaelani from Dgolong Banquet and Resto; Chef Dewi Kencana Wati Yomo from SMKN 4 Mataram; and Chef Muclis Affandi from Golden Palace Hotel. The cooking contest was attended by 43 groups with a maximum of two members from various universities, including University of Mataram, UNU Yogyakarta, STP Mataram, Polytechnic of Tourism Lombok, Mandalika Education University, Stikes Yarsi Mataram, University of Muhammadiyah Mataram, and State Islamic University of Mataram.

In this contest, the first winner received a cash prize of Rp.3,500,00, the second winner received Rp. 2,500,000, the third winner received Rp. 1,500,000, the favorite winner received Rp. 1,000,000, and the runner-up received Rp. 500,000.

The winners of the 2023 livestock product-based Indonesian cuisine cooking contest, 1st place was won by group 01 from STP Mataram; 2nd place was won by group 22 from the Faculty of Agriculture, Mataram University; 3rd place was won by group 30 from Poltekpar Lombok.
