FH Unram’s 57th Anniversary National Seminar, Examines Legal Protection for Disabilities
Mataram, University of Mataram – In a series of activities for the 57th Anniversary of the Faculty of Law (FH) of the University of Mataram (Unram), FH Unram held a National Seminar entitled “Legal Protection for Disabilities Against the Law” in collaboration with the Justice for Disability Consortium, located in the Senate Conference Room, Rectorate of Unram on Thursday (30/11).
The Rector of Unram, represented by the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Prof. Dr. Sitti Hilyana, M.Si., opened the National Seminar. In her speech, Prof. Nana said that this activity is very important for universities in improving Unram’s ranking at the world level. One of the benchmarks for ranking universities at the world level is having a high alignment towards people with disabilities and being able to answer the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) of the 17 existing SDGs.
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Universities focus on the University’s research on social inequalities, their policies on discrimination and the University’s commitment to recruiting staff and students from underrepresented groups. SDGs 10 itself has the goal of reducing inequality within and between countries in the world, reducing inequality, policies must be universal, pay attention to the needs of disadvantaged and marginalized populations, so this is a performance indicator that must be followed by Universities around the world.
Prof. Nana explained that the issue of disability is not only a national issue, but an international issue. In addition, Unram has thought about the preparation of academy governance about services for facilities for people with disabilities and is very open to entry by friends by people with disabilities without any different treatment or discrimination, so that services for friends with disabilities become a very important part.
“Regarding infrastructure equipment, for example, how to climb stairs, how in the toilet, how in the classroom, how the arrangements for the implementation of drinking, how the computer, how all the facilities. We must prepare and pay attention to these devices, so that all people with disabilities have the right to enter the Unram environment and receive education in general, “said Prof. Nana.
In addition, the action against discrimination against people with disabilities is contained in Unram’s academic guidelines, so that the existence in the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence (PPKS) is also one of the things that becomes the goal, of course the rights of people with disabilities will be protected at Unram. Unram has also begun to think about how to develop laboratories to serve the educational interests of younger siblings with disabilities, so that there is no term Unram is closed to people with disabilities.
The speakers in this activity, namely Totok Dwi Diantoro as Lecturer of FH Gajah Mada University; Then Moh. Sandi Iramaya as Judge of Mataram District Court; Laely Wulandari as Head of Labkum FH Unram; Samsul Hadi as Activist of Persons with Disabilities; Joko Jumadi as Lecturer of FH Unram and KDD NTB Province.
The Chairperson of the FH Unram Anniversary committee represented by the Secretary of the Committee, Khairus Febriyan, SH, MH, expressed his gratitude and welcome to Unram to Mr. Totok Dwi Diantoro as Lecturer of FH Gajah Mada University along with other speakers who attended this activity.
Khairus Febriyan explained that this National Seminar was an activity from the series of Dies Natalis FH Unram which later on January 25, 2024 celebrated the peak of FH Unram’s 57th birthday. This series is a form of cooperation between FH Unram and the Justice for Disability Consortium and enriches this activity to be held at Unram.
