National Humanities Seminar 2024 Explores Social Transformation and Humanities in the Vortex of Artificial Intelligence Development

Mataram, Universitas Mataram – The Research and Community Service Institute of the University of Mataram (LPPM Unram) successfully organized the 2024 Humanities National Seminar with the theme “Social Transformation and Humanities in the Vortex of Artificial Intelligence Development” taking place at Lombok Raya Hotel on Thursday, October 31.

This seminar aims to strengthen LPPM’s contribution in supporting the development of science and technology, and was attended by academics, researchers, and students who focus on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the field of science.

This seminar presented three main speakers including: Prof. Dr. Mahsun, M.S., Lecturer at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Unram; Prof. Dr. I Made Yudana, M.Pd., Lecturer at the Graduate School of Educational Administration, Ganesha University of Education; and Prof. Dr. Eng. Wisnu Jatmiko, Lecturer at the Faculty of Computer Science, University of Indonesia.

Dr. Lalu Thohir, M.Pd. as the Head of the Committee said that the National Humanities Seminar 2024 was the second event held by LPPM Unram.

Dr. Ir. Misbahudin represented the Rector of Unram, Prof. Ir. Bambang Hari Kusumo, M.Agr.St., Ph.D. in his speech said that this seminar was part of Unram’s 62nd Dies Natalis series. Dr. Misbahudin also said that LPPM Unram continues to be committed to the development of science, especially through seminar themes that are relevant in the midst of the rapid development of AI.

“This seminar is expected to inspire, encourage collaboration and enrich knowledge, become a forum for participants to exchange knowledge and discuss current issues,” said Dr. Misbahudin.

In the presentation of the three keynote speakers followed by an in-depth discussion session, the current development of AI has had both positive and negative impacts on science. Prof. Dr. Eng. Wisnu Jatmiko explained that although the development of AI brings convenience in science, AI also has a dark side with a chance of data manipulation.

Prof. Wisnu also proved several trials showing that AI technology can perform reasoning that facilitates research and advised to always be wise in using AI. “Although AI currently provides convenience, we should also be wise in using AI technology,” he concluded.

The series of presentations from the presenters were carried out online and offline, allowing presenters who were unable to attend in person to be able to present their research results.

The seminar was closed with the announcement of the best presenters from each group who had presented their research and service results. In closing, Dr. Ir. Misbahudin as Head of the KKN Service Center of LPPM Unram also represented the Head of LPPM Unram, Prof. Dr. Ir. Sukartono, M.Agr., expressed his appreciation to all participants. “We are grateful for the extraordinary participation in the National Humanities Seminar 2024, both from the presenters, guest speakers, and participants who have attended,” concluded Dr. Misbahudin.
