Raising The Living Time (Less) Concept, Three Unram Architecture Students Won 1st Place in the National Competition for Z-Lenial Space
Mataram, University of Mataram – Three students of the Architecture Study Program of the University of Mataram (Unram) won 1st place in the National Competition with the theme: “Z-Lenial Space: Space for Millennials and Gen Z” held by the Architecture Engineering Student Association (HIMATA) of University of Muhammadiyah Palembang, which took place from March 4 to May 12, 2024.
The three Architecture students are Rizky Akbar Satrio Pamungkas as the team leader, M. Taufan Alisukma and Baiq Thahira Alfa Tsani. They managed to beat 29 other teams in the competition which was carried out through open judging both offline and online at Utopia Collaboration Space, Palembang.
This competition is a platform for innovation and creation in responding to the demands and needs of the millennial generation for affordable yet beautiful homes, and can be expanded in the future while still prioritizing sustainable concepts.
Through this activity, Satrio and team created a residential innovation with the concept of Living Time(Less), where this concept is translated into two meanings: life has no time and life is limitless.
The implementation of the concept into millennial and Gen Z residential designs is that residential houses can be owned and used as soon as possible to support millennial and Gen Z lifestyles. The translation of life is timeless is the concept of a residential design that can grow according to the needs, function of space, and economic conditions of the residents. In its development, the construction of houses can be built in stages according to needs and abilities, making it more affordable and reasonable for millennials and Gen Z to own a house in the middle of the city.
Satrio said he was happy and proud of his team’s achievement after participating in the competition for a dozen times.
“The three of us are very happy and proud. We have participated in this competition a dozen times but previously we were only able to enter the top 10. This is very special for us because this is the first time Architecture Study Program of Unram has won a competition at the national level,” he said.
Satrio admitted that he once felt inferior because he competed with other teams from several well-known universities. However, Satrio and the team continued to be strong and encouraged themselves that they could be equal, and could prove that the students of Unram Architecture Study Program could compete, and even win the championship.
Furthermore, Satrio admitted that despite facing many challenges during the competition, starting from having to divide lecture time and heavy assignments as architecture students and obstacles to being able to attend in person for the presentation of works did not discourage Satrio and the team to be able to perform maximally through online presentations via zoom meetings.
Satrio and the team hope they can continue to work, winning other competitions both at the national and international levels. Through this achievement, Satrio hopes that it can be a source of enthusiasm for other students of Unram to continue creating their best works.
