Syahrial A., the First Doctoral Graduate of Unram’s Science Education Study Program, Presents an Innovative Dissertation on Kaffah Science
Mataram, University of Mataram – The open dissertation examination of Syahrial A., S.Pd, M.Si., the first doctoral graduate from the Science Education Doctoral Study Program of the University of Mataram (Unram), was in the spotlight of academics and educators. The dissertation entitled “Development of a Kaffah Learning Model on Fluid Concepts to Improve Metacognition, Character, and Scientific Attitudes of Prospective Teacher Students” was delivered on Monday (5/8) in the Senate Conference Room, Unram Rectorate.
This dissertation raised an innovative theme regarding the integration of the Kaffah learning model in learning fluid concepts in physics, that aims to improve three important aspects for prospective teacher students, including metacognition, character, and scientific attitudes.
In his presentation, Syahrial A., S.Pd, M.Si explained how kaffah science learning is a solution to multidimensional problems in the future.
“Based on the meaning of kaffah in Surah Al-Baqarah paragraph 208, the Kaffah learning model is a solution to multidimensional problems in the future. Kaffah learning is based on the principle of comprehensive learning and provides complete knowledge to students including religion, process, concept, application and meaningfulness can be applied to facilitate a deeper understanding of fluid concepts. This model does not only focus on cognitive aspects, but also pays attention to the development of character and scientific attitudes of students as future educators,” he said.
Through this approach, Syahrial A., S.Pd, M.Si also explained that Kaffah learning aims to ensure that students not only understand the material theoretically, but also develop good scientific attitudes and strong character.
“This model is designed to actively involve students in the learning process, motivate them to think critically and reflectively, and build positive characters that are important in education. Students not only understand the material theoretically, but can also develop good scientific attitudes and strong character,” he added.
This open examination was also combined with an intense question and answer session. The examination team consisting of Prof. Dr. Ir. A Farid Hemon, M.Sc. as Chairperson; Prof. Dr. Joni Rokhmat, M.Sc.; Prof. Dr. Agus Ramdani, M.Sc.; Prof. Dr. Aliefman Hakim, M.Sc.; Prof. Dr. Festiyed, M.S.; Prof. Dr. H. Suhirman, S.Pd., M.Sc.; and Dr. Gunawan, M.Pd., asked in-depth questions regarding the methodology and practical implications of the research. The examiners praised Syahrial A, S.Pd, M.Si’s commitment to developing a holistic and applicable model, and its relevance in the context of teacher education.
At the end of the session, Syahrial A., S.Pd, M.Si expressed his hope that this research can make a significant contribution to educational practice, especially in developing learning models that support prospective teachers in building more comprehensive competencies.
“Hopefully the results of this research can be adopted and applied in the education curriculum, so that it can help improve the quality of education and prepare better prospective teachers in the future,” he concluded.
This open examination marks an important achievement in Syahrial A., S.Pd, M.Si’s academic journey, and is a step forward in striving to improve the quality of education in Indonesia. As the first doctoral graduate from Unram’s Science Education Doctoral Study Program, Syahrial has paved the way for other students to follow in his footsteps in achieving the highest academic achievement.
