Mataram, University of Mataram – The British Embassy, Jakarta and the University of Mataram (Unram) held a meeting to establish opportunities for collaboration in various fields on Thursday (8/8) in the Rector’s Meeting Room. The meeting aimed to discuss and explore potential collaborations that could benefit both parties.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Head of Second Cities, British Embassy Jakarta, Environmental Engineering, Nottingham University, and Regional Outreach Manager, British Embassy, as well as Unram leaders led by the Rector of Unram, Prof. Ir. Bambang Hari Kusumo, M.Agr.St., Ph.D. The discussion covered several key topics, including academic exchange, scholarship programmes, and cooperation in research.

In her remarks, Regional Outreach Manager, British Embassy, Winda Listiyani, expressed her enthusiasm for the potential of this collaboration.

“The NTB Provincial Government and the University of Nottingham have been collaborating since 2022. Currently, we are working on an action plan for concrete programmes that can be implemented in this collaboration. Some of the areas that will be the focus in NTB include agriculture and green mining. Of course, the University of Mataram has the capacity to support the success of this collaboration,” said Winda Listiyani.

Meanwhile, the Rector of Unram emphasised the importance of international cooperation in enriching academic experience and improving the quality of education at Unram.

“In the future, we are optimistic that we can see various opportunities for collaboration. We thank you for the visit of the British Embassy representatives. We will programme various opportunities that can be implemented, including the possibility of sharing lectures from Nottingham through live streaming or Zoom Meeting. We are also considering starting a double degree programme as well as other opportunities, such as lessons on animal science or tropical science, for our students. In addition, we see the potential to develop an adjunct professor programme, which would allow lecturers from Nottingham to contribute directly to teaching at University of Mataram,” Prof Bambang explained.

The meeting resulted in several preliminary agreements, including arrangements for lecture sharing and the development of an adjunct professor programme, which will be implemented soon. Both parties agreed to continue further discussions to formulate the details of each proposed collaboration programme.

Unram and the British Embassy hope that this initiative will pave the way for productive and mutually beneficial collaborations in the future. Furthermore, both institutions will develop an agenda and implementation strategy to ensure the success of the agreed programmes.
