Unram Encourages Strengthening Creative Economy Based on Intellectual Property and Culture through International Seminar

Mataram, University of Mataram – The Research and Community Service Institute of the University of Mataram (LPPM Unram) successfully organized an International Seminar entitled “Strengthening Intellectual and Cultural Property-based Creative Economy for Public Welfare”. This event took place on Friday, December 6, 2024 at the Unram Senate Conference Room.

In this activity, attended by the Rector of Unram, Prof. Ir. Bambang Hari Kusumo, M.Agr.St., Ph.D., Head of the Intellectual Property Rights Lecturer Association (APHKI), Prof. Dr. Adi Sulistiyono, SH., MH., NTB Provincial government agencies such as Bappeda, Dikbud, and 200 participants consisting of academics from various universities and students.

Rector of Unram, Prof. Ir. Bambang Hari Kusumo, M.Agr.St., Ph.D. in his speech while officially opened the event emphasized that Unram is committed to supporting the protection of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) as an important part in the development of innovative research and lecturer services.

“Through the optimization of IPR, we not only improve the Key Performance Indicators (KPI) but also strengthen Unram’s global competitiveness. This step is in line with Unram’s vision to become a superior university that is able to make a real contribution at the national and international levels,” said Prof. Bambang.

Prof. Ir. Zainuri, PGDip., M.App.Sc., Ph.D. as Head of the Committee reported that “This activity was attended by more than 200 participants consisting of NTB government agencies, national and regional academics and Unram students. In this activity we invited national and international speakers including Prof. Insan Budi Maulana, Prof. Dr. Ida Madieha Abdul Ghani Azmi, Dr. Ir. Moh. Zainuddin, and Dr. Eng Sukmawaty, “he concluded.

On the same occasion, the Head of the Intellectual Property Rights Lecturers Association (APHKI), Prof. Dr. Adi Sulistiyono, SH., MH. conveyed the importance of protecting Intellectual Property Rights (IPR).

“The protection of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) is very important for universities, because it can protect the results of research and innovation produced by academics and students. By utilizing IPR, universities can become a driving force for innovation that contributes to economic development and community welfare,” said Prof. Adi Sulistiyono.

Head of LPPM Unram Prof. Dr. Ir. Sukartono, M.Agr. added “Through the increasingly close cooperation between Unram, the Directorate of Cooperation and Education of the Directorate General of IPR of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia, and JICA Japan, this international seminar is expected to make a significant contribution to increasing the capacity of human resources, strengthening the IPR protection system, and developing a creative economy based on cultural values,” he concluded.

This international seminar is a forum to expand the network of cooperation between academics, government, and the private sector in order to strengthen IPR management and the development of a creative economy based on local values.

By introducing policies and best practices from various countries, seminar participants are expected to gain greater insight into the application of IPR in supporting the advancement of creative sectors such as art, design, technology, and culture.

Thus, this activity will not only have a positive impact on the development of the creative economy in Indonesia, but also contribute to improving the welfare of the wider community.
