Unram Explores Strategic Cooperation with PRC Consulate General in Denpasar

Mataram, University of Mataram – University of Mataram (Unram) held a discussion with the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) in Denpasar to explore the potential academic cooperation and internationalization, on Monday, April 28, 2025, in the Rector’s Conference Room, Unram Rectorate.
The delegation from the PRC Consulate General was led by Consul General, Zhang Zhisheng, accompanied by Deputy Consul General, Zhu Yu, and Director, Xu Lian. From Unram, the Vice Rector for Cooperation, Planning, and Information Systems, Head of the International Affairs Office, lecturers from the Mandarin Center, Postgraduate Director, Faculty Deans, and Vice Dean III of the Faculty of Economics and Business were present.
The visit was welcomed by the Rector of Unram, Prof. Ir. Bambang Hari Kusumo, M.Agr.St., Ph.D., who in his speech expressed Unram’s enthusiasm to expand international relations with various countries, including China, through collaboration in the fields of education and research.
During the meeting, various potential collaborations were discussed, including the Mandarin Center at Unram, student and staff exchange programs, joint conferences, joint double degree programs, and other forms of academic cooperation.
“We hope that this cooperation can increase the number of students and staff who take part in exchange programs with institutions in China, so that the academic and cultural relations between the two parties will be closer,” said the Rector.
Consul General, Zhang Zhisheng, in his speech expressed his excitement to visit West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) for the first time. He expressed his admiration for the quiet and beautiful environment of Mataram.
“This visit is our first opportunity to visit NTB. We see Mataram has a very beautiful environment and a calmer atmosphere,” Zhang said.
He added that the PRC Consulate General is committed to supporting communication and relations between Unram, the NTB government, universities in China, and the Chinese government.
“We are here to act as a bridge of communication between Unram, the NTB government, Chinese universities, and our government. The goal is to build a more equal relationship, enrich knowledge, and strengthen cooperation for a better world,” he added.
In addition to academic aspects, the discussion also addressed the potential for cooperation in the fields of economy and tourism, considering NTB’s strategic position in the development of international relations.
