Unram’s Strategic Discussion with USSEC, Indiana Soybean Alliance and Indonesian Tempe Forum Centered to Advance Soybean Sector
Mataram, University of Mataram – In an effort to strengthen the soybean industry, Unram held a strategic discussion with the Indiana Soybean Alliance (ISA), the U.S. Soybean Export Council (USSEC), and the Central Indonesian Tempe Forum (FTI) at the Rector’s Meeting Room (23/07). The meeting was attended by various stakeholders from both parties.
The discussion focused on various important topics including soybean production technology, sustainable practices, and increasing soybean production yields, and the development of processed soybeans in Indonesia.
USSEC Indiana Napolis of America, long recognized as a pioneer in soybean innovation in the United States, shared valuable insights on the use of advanced technology in soybean cultivation. They also presented various sustainability initiatives that have successfully increased efficiency and reduced environmental impact in the soybean production process.
“There are 20,000 soybean farmers in Indiana, we help develop soybean markets, conduct research, and most importantly strategize for the sustainability of soybean farming for future generations” said Mark Legan, Directors-Indiana Soybean Alliance.
Indiana Soybean Alliance Consultant, Mayasari Effendi also explained the advantages of the tempeh she produced “The uniqueness of the tempeh that we have made besides having a good taste also has good nutritional content, such as B12, and iron. We hope that Unram can initiate an improvement in the quality of tofu and tempeh production in Indonesia so that it can achieve significant progress in sustainable soybean production that can meet the demands of the international market. Our goal is to create tempeh that tastes like steak.” she concluded.
The Rector of Unram, Prof. Ir. Bambang Hari Kusumo, M.Agr.St., Ph.D. welcomed this discussion, and explained that Unram fully supports research in order to contribute to the advancement of Indonesia. Prof. Bambang hopes to adopt various best practices to improve the productivity and quality of the local soybean processing industry.
“Unram strongly supports research related to soybean agriculture in Indonesia, especially because Lombok is one of the best tempeh and tofu production areas in Indonesia. This discussion opens up great opportunities for us, so Unram is ready to collaborate with USSEC, ISA, and Central FTI to jointly advance the soybean sector,” said Prof. Bambang.
The meeting ended with an agreement to continue dialogue and further exploration of the potential for concrete cooperation between Unram and USSEC, ISA, and Central FTI. All parties are optimistic that this partnership will bring great benefits to the soybean industry in Indonesia.
