Mataram, the University of Mataram– The Learn- Independent Campus (MBKM) provides many new breakthroughs to students on all campuses in Indonesia. The University of Mataram is no exception. This MBKM program is about research or studies. Students join together into 3-5 people to form a team guided by an accompanying lecturer.

This program is known as the Student Creativity Program (PKM). There are nine schemes or types of PKM, namely PKM-K, PKM-RE, PKM-PM, PKM-VGK, PKM-RSH, PKM-KC, PKM-PI, PKM-KI, PKM-GFT, and PKM-AI. One of the teams from the RSH scheme conducted research on the attachment of the cultural value “Patut Patuh Patju” which is the motto of West Lombok Regency using an exploratory analytical study. This research was located on the Sekotong coast. This research took place from early August to September.

The name of the students are Nurul Maylida from the Elementary School Teacher Education study program, Deni Darma Saputra from the Development Economics study program, Sukmayanti from the Biology Education study program, Rosita Yusrianti from the Biology Education study program and Kurniawati from the Biology study program. The RSH 3P team, as they are known, is guided by an accompanying lecturer, namely Ilham Syahrul Jiwandono from the Primary School Teacher Education study program.

Sekotong is one of the areas in West Lombok with a natural beach tourist destination that is so enchanting. Based on its location, Sekotong is included in the Mandalika special economic area, namely as a buffer area for tourist attractions. This exploratory Sekotong tourism effort is centered on studying cultural values in local communities, which is an important step in understanding the identity and character of an area, as is the motto of the people of West Lombok, namely Patut, Patuh, Patju. This cultural value reflects an attitude of respect, obedience and honesty in everyday life.

So, in this research the PKM RSH 3P University of Mataram team chose an exploratory analytical study approach to explore it. This approach allows us to explore these values through observations, interviews and analysis of documents related to this research.

In the interview process with 8 sources from local communities and tourists, they provided an overview of these cultural values which are still visible today. Good values contain the meaning of respecting others and this is reflected in the daily customs and behavior of the Sekotong community. For example, traditional ceremonies are carried out with great solemnity and seriousness.

The value of obedience, namely obedience to norms and rules, is a strong value in Sekotong society. This is reflected in the discipline of residents in carrying out religious and other social duties. And the value of patju is an image of honesty which is a strong foundation in the social relations of the Sekotong community. Openness and honesty in communication are considered the main principles.

The application of these values can be an example for other communities in building healthy and respectful relationships. So that, the quality of tourist destinations in the area can develop rapidly while positive cultural values are still attached to life.

This exploratory analytical study has brought us closer to an in-depth understanding of the cultural values of Patut, Patuh, Patju in Sekotong, West Lombok. Appreciating and understanding these values can enrich social life and strengthen local identity.
